Summer Sewing Capsule
Hafa Adai!
Greetings from the beautiful island of Guam! I recently started living a healthier lifestyle and needed new clothing that fits my new lifestyle and the island climate. Located in the heart of the Western Pacific, the island of Guam is an endless summer, so I had to be careful when selecting fabric bases and sewing patterns that can keep up with the warm climate.
Styla Patterns and Carriage House Printery Fabrics have me covered!
I decided to make a fashion capsule with pieces that I can mix and match using the fabric collections from Summer House Studio in a range of bases. Guam is surrounded by white sand beaches and turquoise water. The beach is definitely my happy place. You can always find me under the palm tree or chasing waves, so a new swimsuit was a priority.
St. Tropez has amazing coverage that suits all water activities and gives great support. I also made a Tavira skirt with built in shorts from the same swim fabric that can double as cover-up. The Wave Jumping Oceanscape print is so fun!
I recently took a liking to hiking too. Nothing beats getting to the peak of a mountain with a 360° island view, but I can get hot and sweaty especially when tackling those hard trails. With this in mind, I made a Brookings sports bra using the same swim fabric, a Houston top in a bamboo jersey fabric and the Halsey shorts in stretch boardshort. Not only is this set comfy, but the pieces are also breathable, airy and able to dry quickly. The Seashell and Woven Basketweave print are an abstract design to break the blues.
The island has amazing running trails, so I made a cute running set using the Telluride pattern in bamboo jersey and the same Tavira skirt from my swim set. This set turned out so cute, and I will definitely wear them frequently, even on non-running days.
Of course, an island sewing capsule would not be complete without a dressy, upscale resort style set. With the same coastal vibe, I stitched up a Juneau top and Tulum pants using rayon challis fabric. So soft, so flowy, so comfy! The stripes are a classic with a fun watercolor twist.
I absolutely love that all these pieces can be mixed and matched to fit my mood and activities.
