Oxford Blouse with Ruffle Collar

The Oxford set makes the sweetest little outfit! I love the Oxford collar but have always wanted a little ruffle collar because, well, who doesn’t love a ruffle?!

This was super simple to do, and I will show you how in this blog.

To begin, I followed the Oxford blouse tutorial until I had attached the front piece of the blouse to the back pieces. Once this step was completed, I measured the neck opening minus the placket. I doubled this measurement to get the width of the ruffle piece.

The height of the ruffle is dependent on the size being made based on length.

12 months - 2 years: 3” (7.6 cm)

3 years - 5 years: 3 1/2” (8.9 cm)

6 years - 8 years: 4” (10.2 cm)

10 years - 14 years: 4 1/2” (11.4)

Next, hem the short sides of the ruffle by folding it 1/4” (0.6 cm) wrong sides together. Fold it another 1/4” (0.6 cm). Sew to secure the hem. Hem the long, bottom edge of the ruffle by folding it 1/4” (0.6 cm) wrong sides together and then folding it another 1/4” (0.6 cm). Sew to secure the hem.

Sew 2 rows of gathering stitches 1/4” (0.6) and 5/8" (1.6 cm) from the top of the ruffle. Gather the ruffle to fit the blouse neckline minus the placket.

Cut a piece of bias 2” (5 cm) in height by the circumference of the neckline.

Pin the binding to the neckline with the right side of the binding touching the wrong side of the blouse, ensuring the binding extends past both sides of the blouse opening by 1/4” (0.6 cm).

Fold the binding, where it extends past the opening, 1/4” (0.6 cm) wrong sides together.

Fold the long edge of the binding 1/4” (0.6 cm) wrong sides together. Fold it another 1/4" (0.6 cm). The binding should now cover the raw edge of the neckline.

Edgestitch along the binding to secure it closed. Hem tape can be useful here!

Finish the blouse as directed in the tutorial!
