Astoria in Christmas Memories
Holiday sewing is and will always be my favorite part of sewing. There is truly no better feeling than picking my favorite pattern, fabric, and notions to create the perfect holiday dress! I know that this year, many of us (if not all) will experience the holiday season a little differently than we have in years past. Maybe we won’t get to enjoy family outings or gathering with our loved ones for the annual holiday dinner, but the one thing I know I can control is making my girl look and feel extra special.
I knew for holiday sewing I wanted to find the perfect vintage pattern and pair it with the fabrics I knew would accentuate that vintage flair. While on my search for fabric I found Christmas Memories for Riley Blake Designs, and it just spoke to me. I knew the traditional red and green color scheme in plaid and holly prints would be perfect for my vision.
Next, I went on the hunt for the perfect Little Lizard King pattern! I honestly didn’t have to search far or long because Astoria Blouse and Astoria Pinafore have always given me vintage vibes and just needed to be sewn into something extra special.
The Astoria Blouse includes short and long sleeve options with a sweet gather at the hem, an optional neck ruffle and keyhole or V back bodice. The blouse is also fully lined. I can never pass up the opportunity to add lace to a garment, so I substituted the neck ruffle for lace, still gathering it and using the suggested measurements to create the ruffle. I also chose to feature the V back bodice closure. For the blouse I used Riley Blake Christmas Memories Holly Green.
The Astoria Pinafore has two bodice options, ruffled and simple. Knowing I can never pass up the opportunity for ruffles, I naturally chose the ruffled bodice option. The pinafore was sewn in Riley Blake Plaid Multi as I am a huge plaid fan, but I am certain if those fabrics had been reversed this would have looked just as fabulous.
Let the magic of the holiday season bring love and peace to you and to the world!
